Ancient Olympia, also known as the "valley of the gods", is one of the most famous and popular destinations. The place where the Olympic Games were born was one of the most important sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world, dedicated to Zeus, the "father of gods and men" as the ancient Greeks believed.

At the foot of the Kronios hill, the archaeological site attracts millions of visitors from all over the world every year.

It includes the Sanctuary of Zeus, with the temples and buildings that were directly related to the cult, and various buildings that were built around it, ancillary buildings, utilitarian and administrative, as well as buildings of secular charachter. Altis, the sacred grove, occupies the central part, while in a prominent position within the sacred space dominates the imposing temple of Zeus and further north the oldest temple of Hera.

East of Altis stretches the stadium, where the Olympic Games were held. In the same area there are building complexes of baths and mansions, such as the famous mansion built by Nero when he lived in Olympia.

At a short distance is located the museum of Olympia where one can admire outstanding ancient exhibits, with the most important being the Hermes of Praxiteles, one of the most famous ancient statues, the Nike of Paionios, a sculpture of rare beauty, as well as the impressive decoration from the Temple of Zeus.

In the area are also located the Museum of the History of the Olympic Games, which houses rare exhibits, as well as the Archimedes Museum, a thematic museum dedicated to the great scientist. The inventions of Archimedes and others of his time are exhibited in the museum and fascinate young and old alike.

The small town of Ancient Olympia shows great growth, with hotels, restaurants, a market, excellent road construction, and most importantly, wonderful sceneries.
