Holy Church of Agios Dionysios – Pyrgos
The Holy Church of Agios Dionysios in Pyrgos, Ilia, a metochion of the Holy Monastery of Strofades and the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios, has been characterized since 1994 as a building in need of special state protection, as it bears remarkable elements of Heptanisian and neoclassical architecture. It is a stone-built church with a saddleback tiled roof.
On the facades of the church there are neoclassical details, while in the interior the gynaeconite is of Heptanesian morphology and the altar screen of the church is wood-carved. The date of the church is placed at the end of the 19th c. (ca. 1870 - 1880). It seems that the lyre-shaped finial belfry of the church was built in the same period, as well as the adjacent two-story building.
