Description

On the beach of Skafidia, next to the mouth of the small river Iardanos, the remains of a large and luxurious public bath complex of Roman times are preserved.

The impressive decoration of the mosaic floors with a variety of themes is largely preserved featuring colorful floral and geometric patterns such as intersecting rhombuses inscribed in rectangles with white background, bands, kantharoi and tendril spirals from which emerge ivy leaves, rhombuses and circles.

In one of the largest rooms, approximately in the center of the complex, a mosaic floor is preserved in a fragmentary state of conservation where dolphins are depicted  in a zone near the wall.

The excavation of the bath, the ruins of which have been visibly preserved since antiquity to our time, was carried out by the Archaeological Service in the two years 2006 - 2007 and led to its complete uncover.
