"The Road to Glory: Following in the Footsteps of the Great Sacred Road of the Olympic Games"

Description

“The Road to Glory: Following the traces of the majestic sacred road of the Olympic Games”

Elis was the capital of the city-state of the Eleans and the seat of the organizing authority of the Olympic Games, the greatest sporting event of the ancient world. It was situated approximately 58 km away from the Sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia, going through the valley road named Sacred Way. Every four years, on the eve of the opening of the Olympic

Games, the magnificent Sacred Procession was formed, starting from Elis on foot and following the Sacred Way to reach Ancient Olympia.
Even today, the torchbearers who carry the Olympic flame from the sanctuary of Hera to Ancient Olympia and to the whole world, pass through the Sacred Way.
