Truce Route 2023 – 8th consecutive year
In the place where the Olympic Games were born, the sacred land of Elis and Olympia and every four years the ancient Greeks united to honor their gods, the Commonwealth of Olympia organizes the "Truce Road". The road that leads from Elis to Olympia. The road that leads from Armistice to Peace. On their way, the runners, heralds of the Truce, receive the hospitality of Xenios Zeus through the happy faces of the people who from the depths of the centuries reach our days, bridging the ancient with the modern. The modern inhabitants, descendants of the ancient Ilians, welcome runners and walkers with a glass of cool water from their springs, with traditional products fruits, raisins, dairy, wines, juices, nuts, whatever everyone has... Fruits borne by the Ilian land and generously given to the modern preachers of Truce.
The Truce Road that connects Elis (the host city of the Olympic Games) to Olympia (the sacred site of the Olympic Games) is not paved with rose petals. It has ups, downs it is long and hard… just like the truce. But all of us athletes, soldiers, ordinary citizens holding an olive branch ran and will run again these 50 kilometers to carry and transmit to the whole world the message of the Truce.
On the "Truce Road" all the finishers will be awarded because the road and the route to the Truce are important. Because defeat will not be succeeding in reaching the goal, which is none other than the Armistice and the destination Peace.
