Churh of Agios Athanasios in Amaliada

The Holy Church of Agios Athanasios is a landmark for the second largest city of Ilia, Amaliada. It was built in its current form in the second half of the 19th century. The inscription on the lintel of the south door gives the date 1867. It suffered great damage in the earthquake of 2008 and its operation was stopped. It reopened at the end of 2010 after the restoration of the above damages, at which time the Western-style murals, which adorned the temple until then, were also destroyed.
