Neda, the famous mythical river with a feminine name, demarcates the border between the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia.
It got its name from the nymph Neda and its crystal clear waters originate in the highlands of the two prefectures, from Mount Lykaio, very close to Andritsena, and flow into the Ionian Sea, and more specifically, into the Kyparissia Gulf.
On its way, Neda crosses a beautiful 32 km long gorge. At its heart lies a stone bridge, towering trees, and a cave straight out of the world of fairy tales. At this point the waterfalls begin, with the turquoise frozen, but crystal clear waters. The largest is located near Figalia and is about 50 meters high. A few meters further on, there is a beautiful chapel.
In many places along the route, small natural lakes are formed, in which you must swim, while it is worth making a little extra effort and going down to the river bank. Diving in its waters will be an unforgettable experience.
