Charalampia 2024: "Legends and Stories.."
The Charalampia, the institution performance intertwined with the Lyceum of the Hellenes of Pyrgos in honor of our patron Agios Charalambos, returns after the pandemic, on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the conference center of the Regional Unit of Ilia, in co-organization with the Region of Western Greece and the Municipality of Pyrgos.
They refer to legends and stories that have been recorded in popular sentiment and have sealed generations of Greeks from past centuries. And although they come from the distant past, they remain alive and leave a sweet sense of nostalgia for people's lives and their passions. The story of Erotokritos and Aretousa and the passion of their love, the story of Golfos and Tasos and their bitter end, the story of the Master’s wife who founded the bridge of Arta, the legend of Menousis and his ill-fated wife, of the daughter from Amorgos and the other girl in the river from Trebizond will come alive with dances and songs as well as with our stories. At the same time, the position of women in a harsh, strict society that wants her subjugated, excluded and completely compliant with strict rules will be highlighted.
All adult dance classes of the Lyceum of the Hellenes of Pyrgos, participate, our teenage dance group and our Great Dance Group, supervised by our teachers Kostas Tzanetou, Andreas Mikelopoulos, Nikos Chrysanthopoulos, Kostas Zontos and Ioulia Kollia. All our dancers come in wonderful costumes from many parts of our homeland (Ponto, Karpathos, Epirus, Sporades, Peloponnese, Crete).
Our choir also participates with traditional songs that refer to such legendary stories, curated by Ms. Kostoula Sakka - Kyritsi.
